So I was thinking... Sherlock, as written in the canon, was never mentioned to have smoked a calabash pipe. It was first used, I believe, by an actor who played him (William Gillette) I suppose because it was more exaggerated or somesuch. Here, Sherlock is smoking a brair pipe, cause I felt like it. I honestly can't remember if he was written smoking one. I just remember the clay and the cherrywood atm...
Watson, on the other hand, wrote that he smoked a pipe, but (to my memory) never specified a type...
So what if Sherlock, if fact, didn't even like the cumbersome calabash, but Watson smoked one instead XD

I have read that calabash pipes tend to give a mellower smoke than other types. Something that Holmes would definitely not approve of, since he seemed more inclined to fast-burning, harsh, nicotine-chocked tobaccos.
